Charity Auction

2011

For the first time, we have had a Charity Auction held in behalf of WebWhispers. This netted a donation to us of about $1,000, for which we are most grateful.

Here is how it was handled:

A letter came from Steve Statin , our WW Member about his son-in-law, and forwarding his gracious offer:

[bobkarwinbandwagon] Trop Rock Charity CD Auction

As you know, Trop Rock music is a community and the musicians who make up the scene support and encourage each other. It is a tradition that Trop Rockers who share a bill at an event exchange complimentary copies of each other's cds so we can get to know each other even better.

Over the years, I have amassed dozens and dozens of cds from trop rock artists that I have been fortunate enough to share a stage with. For convenience, I have ripped them all to my computer so I can carry them everywhere on my iPod. For sentimental reasons, I haven't thrown the hard cds away. For professional reasons, I haven't given them away, either. The "problem" is that I now have a huge box of cds that I keep stored away, since I now only listen to the digital versions.

Rather than let this great music and artwork just rot away in my garage, I came up with an idea to box them all up together and auction them off. 100% of the proceeds would go to WebWhispers, a support group for throat cancer patients who undergo a full or partial laryngectomy. My father-in-law had throat cancer and underwent this devastating surgery. This support group literally saved his life by rescuing him from debilitating depression after the surgery and showed him how to adapt to his new circumstances in order to lead a pretty normal life. Their web site is www.webwhispers.org

The auction will consist of four separate lots of cds. Each lot has about 20-24 cds in it. The Ebay auction site for each lot has a complete list of the cds for each one.

I am proud to say that each of the musicians represented has personally given me their approval for this project.
