Gruess Gott!! I'm very glad you stopped by - even though these pages are still , as usual, " under construction  ".  These are fast moving times so I'll understand if you're rushed, but you are cordially invited to stay awhile and to browse.  Hopefully, there will be something here to interest you - to include LINKS to a constantly updated section dealing with Cancer of the Larynx - over two hundred + pages dedicated to assisting the at least 100,000 "victims" of laryngeal cancer currently living on this planet; an area highlighting the best Military Links on the Web; and an area illustrating My Family Tree.

Web Counter says that, since the "creation" of this site on 02/26/96, 1 Million folks have visited this site.  On our NEW counter (after hitting 1 Million) you are Visitor Number ...that's an average of 77 "hits" a day.  Thanks  for the interest & I hope you enjoy all that's here!!

SOME PERSONAL NOTES:

Status

I'm a single, retired USAF Lieutenant Colonel; spent 21+ years flying jets, etc., to include a tour in Vietnam as a FAC.   I retired in 1988 and entered Federal Civil Service, eventually serving at our Embassy in Bonn, Germany.  Finally, I was medically retired (due to contracting larynx cancer) in 1994.  I now live quietly in El Lago, Texas, near Houston. (See BIO---Photo, if you wish)

Education

BA in German and History from Heidelberg College, Tiffin, OH.   Postgraduate work at Oklahoma University and Ohio University in Public Administration and Guidance Counseling.  MA in National Security Affairs from the Naval Postgraduate School, Monterey, CA.  Within an outstanding program STILL sponsored by Heidelberg College, I spent my undergraduate Junior Year Abroad at the University of Heidelberg, Germany,

Handicaps

Somewhat SHORT (5'7" - on a good day);  Somewhat OLD (62 - Generation Z), Somewhat Financially Challenged (living on my USAF retirement & VA compensation); Somewhat Verbally Challenged (due to larynx cancer, underwent a laryngectomy in 1994 and now use a voice prosthesis (implanted in 1995) to speak) - I make a very quiet friend!  Finally, I am also one of those "Conservative Republicans"....need I say more?

A FEW OF MY FAVORITE THINGS:

Time of Day

- the morning;  when it is quiet and wherein the possibilities of the day are born...

- BTW, when you signed on to this page it was here in Texas.

- or, for us military folks, it was  (ZULU!)

Vacation

- destination need only have the words "Germany" or "England" in it.

- sometimes, even Cleveland, Ohio is a great place!! Say more??  Will the Tribe make the playoffs this year?

  Movies

- "Predator" and "RoboCop" are nose to nose at the wire for "No Brainers"; "Legends of the Fall", "A Bridge Too Far", "Sabrina"; "Apollo 13", "When Harry Met Sally", "Sleepless in Seattle", "Patton", "Air Force One", "Titanic", "Ghost", "Saving Private Ryan", "We Were Soldiers", "You've Got Mail", "G.I. Jane", "The Patriot", "The Mask of Zorro", "Schindler's List", "Zulu", "Zulu Dawn", "The Sands of Iwo Jima", "The Sound of Music" , "National Lampoon's European Vacation", "Porky's" and "The Thin Red Line" are among my all-time favorites.

 Books

- Three GREAT reads recently published: "The O'Reilly Factor" & "The No Spin Zone" by Bill O'Reilly and "The Ten Things You Can't Say in America", by Larry Elder!!  The Bridges of Madison County and anything by Robert Ludlum, John Grisham, Stephen King, Michael Crichton, Tom Clancy, and Dean Koontz .  I must also recommend Tom Brokaw's recent book, "The Greatest Generation" - absolutely inspiring reading!!  Must also recommend "Hit My Smoke! - Forward Air Controllers in Southeast Asia", by Jan Churchill, Sunflower University Press, 1997 - a book about USAF FAC's in Vietnam. Well-written and a good read!  (And, I even get a "mention" in it!!)  Another GREAT FAC book is "Naked in Da Nang", by Mike Jackson and Tara Dixon-Engel, Zenith Press, 2004.  Tells some really neat and TRUE stories about the 0-2 FAC business in Northern I Corps.  Speaking of FACs, check out Mike Shea's GREAT web site about the BILK FACs at Camp Evans, RVN in 1970.  Click on the picture below to get there!

FEVERISH OBSERVATIONS:

The Cleveland Browns are again back in action on the "sunny " shores of Lake Erie in their new stadium.  They were 3-1 in pre-season after a pitiful loss to the Panthers!!  We said last year that things would be better next year.  Well, this IS NEXT YEAR!  Fingers are crossed!!

Well .. Opener against Cincy was ...ummm ... TERRIBLE!!  Not looking good!!  (0-1)  However, we followed it with a SQEAKER over the Packers!!  Not Shabby!! (1-1).  Then came Indianapolis (tough to beat ... but held them to a low score!) (1-2).  Did NOT lose during the Bye-Week!  Suddenly, BINGO!  A 4th Quarter offensive burst buried the Bears, 20-10! (2-2). Next, of course, an "offensive" Offense doomed us against the Ravens (2-3). This was then followed by an even WORSE offensive performance as we lost to the LIONS!!  (2-4).  In another heartbreaker, we lost to the Texans, 19-16, due to two critical fumbles and two touchdowns that missed by "centimeters"! (2-5).  FINALLY - we rally in the second half and beat the TITANS, 20-14 ... the offense actually produced!!  (3-5).  Then the dreaded STEELERS ... and we lose 34-21 and the offense was "offensive" again!  (3-6)!  However, FINALLY, a perfect defensive effort and some offensive production, too, when we stunned the Dolphins, 22-0!  (4-6).  This was followed by a return to form ... four turnovers killed us in a 24-12 loss to the Vikings! ARGH (4-7).  Then, again, offense sputters in second half as we LOSE to Jacksonville, 20-14 (4-8) Geezzzzz!  MORE PAIN!  Two penalties and a last second field goal give the Bengals a 23-20 win (4-9).  Suddenly, a BREAK!  Our Brownies hold on to edge the Raiders with a last second field goal -- to win 9-7!  God must have been smiling!! (5-9).  Then, a return to form as the offense STINKS and we lose again to Pittsburgh ... 41-0.  ARGH! (5-10).  Finally ... the season ends with a long overdue VICTORY over the RAVENS, 20-16!! (6-10).  Maybe there is optimisim for the next season!!  WHAT A TRIP!!

SIX DELIGHTFUL WAYS TO SPEND A SUNDAY:

skimming the tops of a stratus cloud deck into a beautiful sunset at Mach 1+

skiing fresh powder with friends (prior to hitting the fireplace lounge)

reading a "great" novel while sipping on Mosel wine (or a Beck's beer!)

partaking of "Gemuetlichkeit" at the OKTOBERFEST in Munich, Germany

walking the woods in the mountains (spring or fall)

sharing a late, long breakfast (etc.) in bed with the woman you love

PONDERING THE MYSTERIES OF THE UNIVERSE:

Why is it better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all?

Why is it "in" to have BLUE water in your toilet bowl?

Why should you change the oil in your car every 3,000 miles?

Why did we elect a liberal President and a conservative House and Senate?

When will "Ebonics" be offered as a required college course in California?

Why are there expiration dates on cartons of  "sour " cream?

Why do some drive-up ATM machines have Braille keypads?

Do blind Eskimos have seeing-eye sled dogs?

What color does a SMURF turn when you choke him?

When manufacturers ship styrofoam, what do they pack it in?

Why, in Heaven's name, does Hawaii have Interstate highways?

How can one tell when it's time to tune one's bagpipes?

Is  "anal retentive" supposed to be hyphenated?
